1.62 oz Engraved Leadville, Colorado Silver Ingot
10mm x 17mm x 30mm. On face: From F.F.G. / Nov. 8th 1884. On back: Alveana, with ornate bird and flower vignette.
On one long edge: L.C.M.Co. On other long edge: Leadville, Colo, with ornate decoration. Ornate engraving on ends as well and around the other inscriptions. The “L.C.M.Co.” inscription may reference the Leadville Consolidated Mining Co., managed by John T. Elton in Leadville in 1884. Elton’s firm may have engraved the ingot, or supplied the silver from which it was made. Several other engraved silver ingots are known from Leadville, engraved for a variety of purposes. Leadville, Colorado was a booming mining town in the 1880s.
